• Overview – The Jr. High Youth Group serves young people in 6th, 7th and 8th grades by providing social & service opportunities as well as other interactions designed to develop Christian values and community as well as a sense of civic responsibility. The goal is to ultimately build on and supplement the overall faith experience of Generations of Faith, Confirmation activities and other church interactions.
bullet• Scope and Participation – The youth group currently meets monthly (usually the last Friday of the month) from 7-9pm. In addition to monthly meetings, students are engaged in a number of periodic social and service-related activities throughout the year. In 2010 the group also held its second annual retreat (and first overnight retreat), which will continue to be held annually in August. 2010 saw a great deal of expansion as a result of increased parent participation and commitment to the program as well as the addition of a number of volunteers. There are currently 40-50 active members of the youth group and the program continues to evolve and improve.
bullet• Recent & Upcoming Events – in addition to monthly meetings and the retreat, some of the events from 2009-10 included:

o Halloween scavenger hunt to support local men’s shelter
o Shoe drive for victims of the Haiti disaster
o Holiday season mass for Christian Village followed by Christmas party
o Ice-skating
o Service project with Food Bank of Northwest Indiana
o Year-end social for students and families at Inman’s Fun & Family Center

• Our Needs – Our current volunteer needs include:

o Helping to develop curriculum for meetings and facilitate social/service events
o Assistance with communications (e-mail, mailings, bulletin, newsletters, etc.)
o Planning and logistics for annual retreat
o …and MUCH MORE!

We encourage anyone interested in working with this amazing group of young people to share their gifts and talents. We will find a way to use you!
