Mickey Manoski
About Mickey
Hobart resident.
Bachelor's degree in English from Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake
Forest, Ill.
Master's degree in theology from Marquette University.
Member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Crown Point.
Amateur actress; does local theater.
Accomplishments: Mickey Manoski is director of faith formation at Holy Spirit
Catholic Church. She is responsible for helping the lifelong development of the
parish - all age groups. Manoski helped initiate and directs Generations of
Faith that meets September through April as parishioners "learn basic
information on the Catholic Church, build community with one another and help
build the faith of the community." Members share a meal, learn basic information
and divide into age specific or family groups to continue learning. Last year
the program focused on the sacraments, this year the topic is The Creed and
information will be tied into special events in the liturgy. Manoski also
oversees the sacrament programs for reconciliation, Eucharist and confirmation,
and is the director of Children's Liturgy of the Word, where youngsters leave
the Mass to hear age appropriate readings. "I thoroughly enjoy my job," she
said. "I feel the Holy Spirit has given me a gift to bring deeper faith to
our community and some of the people with whom I work have increased my faith
tremendously. We have a wonderful faith-filled parish and I'm proud to serve the
needs of this parish," she added. Manoski is a lector, Eucharistic minister and
helps with long range planning in the parish. She also initiated the church's
vacation Bible school program and provides information on faith formation
programs for the Web site: www.holy-spiritchurch.org
Why I minister to others: "I feel God called me to help build the faith of
his people. It is something I am called to do."
What I read: "I like mysteries. I particularly enjoyed ‘The DaVinci Code.'
'The Secret Life of Bees' was a wonderful book and I also like to read books
about different cultures."
Advice: "Follow your deepest instincts to find God wherever you find God."
What inspires me: "People inspire me. When I see people being generous, when
I hear people talk about their deep relationships with God, and people serving
other people."
People might be surprised to know: "I love singing barbershop harmony."
