Elizabeth Ministry

What is the Elizabeth Ministry?

This is an international movement designed to support women and their families during the joys, trials and sorrow of the childbearing years and beyond.  Elizabeth ministry's mission is to cherish children, encourage families and build community.  We offer peer support, mentoring, spiritual nourishment, and educational and inspirational resources. We are not experts; merely faithful volunteers who offer peer support and friendship by sharing our presence, stories and experiences.

Why is it needed?

In the past, intimacy and support needed during childbearing years were found in the structures of the family, neighborhood and church. Today these structures are undergoing rapid change. Elizabeth Ministry responds in friendship, as a constant source of support saying "We care."

What are the benefits?

bulletWe give reassurance and encouragement to women who are pregnant, or are caring for a newborn.
bulletWe reach out to women who experience a miscarriage or infant or child death.
bulletWe celebrate birth and adoption with parents and their families. We respond at times of infant and child crisis.
bulletWe welcome young families into our community.

How does it work?

Elizabeth Ministry follows the example of the scripture story of the Visitation by bringing together women who share similar experiences. This ministry is an opportunity for like-to-like mentoring through personal visits.

bulletWomen share their experiences with one another in the magnificent adventure of bringing new life into the world.
bulletThe sharing of life experiences brings with it a caring commitment and a sense of connectedness.
